Combining Hobbies and Potential Income

Updated: Oct 5, 2019

I have always enjoyed taking on new hobbies. I find it keeps life interesting and allows for constant learning and growth. In my travels I have taken thousands of photos, but have never considered myself to be a photographer. I would not consider my photos to be exceptional by any standards, but occasionally I manage to snap a few gems that I am proud of and eager to share.

Recently, I was introduced to EyeEm by @carolinthiergart This platform allows photographers of any skill level or discipline to showcase their work, or merely just their favourites. Users are able to like photos, make comments, or follow each other. But on top of that, you have the opportunity to sell them as well with little to zero effort. In a few short moments after hearing about the website, I was signed up, posted about 20 photos, and shortly after that found that 6 photos were selected for partner review. Essentially, I could receive payment for a photo I was going to take for my own collection of memories. The bonus of all this is that it doesn't require a huge time investment, and EyeEm takes care of everything else. They will notify you if a photo has been sold, and with a PayPal connection, you can receive your payment in a matter of clicks. The work shown here took a matter of minutes to upload, and has already been selected for partner review. Best of all, it forever remains my property. There are a lot of ways to gain exposure with EyeEm, including the ability to participate in missions, enter contests and win prizes. All for doing something you are already in love with doing.

Below is a sample, courtesy of @carolinthiergart, that illustrates the ease of receiving payment once your pictures are purchased.

Of course, publishing your work doesn't mean it will be purchased instantly. To help, EyeEm has a lot of great info on their website. For me, it's just another great platform to post my content. If it sells... Great! If not... At least I can get feedback from other photographers, and in turn, improve my own skills. Always learning, constantly growing.

Check out the gallery below of some of my favourite pictures, and you can always click on the EyeEm button in my social bar for a link to my profile. I look forward to your comments and feedback. I would also like to give @carolinthiergart another shout out for the suggestion of using this great platform. Stay tuned for more content coming soon.
